904L stainless steel contains higher levels of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum compared to 316L. This composition makes it exceptionally resistant to corrosion from chlorides, sweat, saltwater, and everyday chemicals. The higher nickel content in 904L steel allows for a noticeably brighter polish and a warmer, whiter tone than 316L. When brushed, the grain is finer and more uniform. RICH Factory polishes each case and bracelet in multiple stages to achieve the signature Rolex-like mirror finish on high-polish surfaces and the precise linear brushing on flat links.
904L is noticeably harder than 316L, making it more resistant to scratches and dings during everyday wear. This hardness also helps the watch hold its polish over time. While harder steel is more difficult to machine, RICH Factory invests in precision CNC tooling to ensure every case, bezel, and bracelet link meets the exacting tolerances expected of a premium replica.
Rolex is one of the very few watch manufacturers to use 904L steel across its entire lineup. Dubbed “Oystersteel,” it was introduced in the 1980s for tool watches like the Submariner and Sea-Dweller.
